The Blank Canvas

The Starting Point

When we moved in to the house in March 2008 the garden was overgrown and very dry. A kind of desert scrubland. The house had been empty for some years and this was reflected in the state of the garden, unfortunately I don't have any pictures but it was a mess. The only high points were the number of trees that a previous owner had planted although these were unkempt and a frame for hanging orchids with a shade wall on west side of the house. Everything else was a complete mess which was fine by me as it gave me a blank canvas on which to eventually get to work. In retrospect I wish I had taken some photos of it in its parlous state so I could fully chart the improvement but I didn't - mai pen rai.

The entire property measures 125 square wa which equates to 500 metres squared. At a guess the house occupies about 40* of that so that isabout 300 square metres of garden I have to play with and I am looking forward to see what I can do.

The Existing Garden - March 2008

Plan is not precisely to scale but it is reasonably accurate for demonstration purposes
